Cuckoo International (MAL) Bhd (Cuckoo Malaysia) has urged the Malaysian government to classify essential household appliances — including water purifiers, air purifiers, and high-quality mattresses — as wellness products eligible for tax exemptions under Budget 2026. The company believes these products are fundamental to public health and well-being. By making home wellness appliances more affordable, Cuckoo aims to support the government’s efforts to ease living costs while promoting healthier, sustainable living for all Malaysians.
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2025:
Cuckoo International (MAL) Bhd, better known as Cuckoo Malaysia, has called on the Malaysian government to recognise and classify home wellness appliances as essential items eligible for tax relief under Budget 2026.
The company emphasised that products such as water purifiers, air purifiers, and premium mattresses are no longer luxury items but essential wellness necessities that contribute directly to public health. Cuckoo Malaysia believes that introducing tax exemptions for these products would not only ease the financial burden on households but also help improve the nation’s overall quality of life.
Cuckoo Malaysia’s Non-Independent Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hoe Kian Choon, said the proposals are aligned with the government’s priorities to reduce cost-of-living pressures while stimulating domestic demand.
“By aligning with the government’s priorities in the 2026 Budget, we can help address cost-of-living pressures, stimulate domestic demand, and ensure that healthier living is not a luxury but a daily reality. We stand ready to partner with the government to deliver these outcomes,” Hoe said in a statement.
In addition, Cuckoo Malaysia proposed targeted tax incentives and appliance grants for first-time homeowners, aimed at easing the financial strain of setting up a new home. Expanding the existing lifestyle tax reliefs to include wellness-related products would, according to the company, encourage more Malaysians to prioritise healthier living.
The company also highlighted the importance of public–private partnerships with affordable housing initiatives such as PR1MA, RUMAWIP, and PPA1M. These partnerships could enable residents to access essential household appliances through rental or subscription plans, removing the need for large upfront payments. This approach would ensure that every Malaysian household has access to basic wellness infrastructure such as clean water and purified air.
Cuckoo Malaysia further urged the government to streamline approval and compliance processes to reduce bureaucracy. By simplifying these processes, the company believes the government can accelerate private sector participation in health and wellness-focused initiatives and drive sustainable business growth.
With these proposals, Cuckoo Malaysia continues to champion its mission of creating a “Beyond Standards” Healthy Home — helping Malaysians enjoy cleaner water, fresher air, and better rest through innovation and affordability.
As Malaysia heads into Budget 2026, Cuckoo’s recommendations align with the broader push from the private sector for targeted relief measures that balance household affordability with economic growth.
